Yes, I’m doing it again. I signed up for my third 2-Day, 39-mile Avon Breast Cancer walk. It had been an amazing journey all past years and this year we have one more reason to walk, we need to celebrate and honor one of the most amazing fighters that faced the disease more than once with a straight face, won many battles at the beginning, and unfortunately lost the war, Bridget Spence. A couple of years ago, I met personally my first male breast cancer survivor, a wonderful guy named Peter Deveraux. He fought like the brave marine that he was in real life many battles against this horrible disease. He won many but he lost the big  one at the end. His memory will always be with us on every step of our journey.

Once again this year I will be the walking with an incredible team of guys called Men With Heart.

Do you remember when the word “cancer” was only spoken in hushed tones? Well, it’s time for me and you to start making noise and taking action against this disease that has devastated many families. Cancer claimed the lives of two good friends in recent years, my high school friend Veta in Greece and our sweetheart Ipswich VFW bartender and fellow poker player Debbie. Even though the money will not bring either back, we can raise awareness for prevention and cure.

Without a cure, an estimated 5 million Americans will be diagnosed with breast cancer – and more than 1 million could die – over the next 25 years. That’s a pretty startling statistic. No one should have to face this disease, so we walk in order to create a future without breast cancer. Walking 39 miles was hard, but I will keep walking until breast cancer is no longer. I walk because everyone deserves a lifetime. I walk because I can.
